We visited Saint Lucia for a short birthday getaway and were mesmerized by its natural beauty. The highlight of our trip was, without a doubt, our stay at the stunningly scenic and secluded Anse Chastanet resort, which also offers one of the best snorkeling spots on the island.
Known for its pair of dramatically tapered mountains, the Pitons, Saint Lucia is home to volcanic beaches, reef-diving sites, luxury resorts, numerous fishing villages, and archaeological sites. Its diversity makes it a melting pot for various cultures. Visitors who can venture into this Eastern Caribbean island are introduced to its beauty and mysticism through the many activities, from diving to mountain climbing to everything in between. Saint Lucia is guaranteed to captivate anyone who sets foot on her coastline!
Like most islands in the Caribbean, Saint Lucia has gone through centuries of what we can call an identity crisis. Initially inhabited by Arawaks, this beautiful island had two names prior to being known as Saint Lucia by the Carib settlers of the 800s (Louanalao and Hewanorra).
Future settlers then attempted to gain control over the Caribs through the 18th, 19th, and well into the 20th Century. The Spaniards, English, and European armies all wanted to gain control of this resource-enriched island. Eventually, the English were able to conquer it. Saint Lucia reclaimed its independence in 1979 and slowly rebuilt its identity.
Saint Lucia is the ideal choice for a relaxing vacation if you are looking to disconnect and immerse yourself in nature!
